Let's connect over email!
I’ve spent the past few weeks hunting for the best solo cruise deals, and honestly, I kept going in circles. Cruise lines have these so-called ‘solo traveller’ landing pages (clearly for SEO), I’d spot an incredible deal, then realise the price was per person with a hefty solo supplement. Back to the start.
After a few hundred words in my notes app, I figured I’d pull everything together into a blog post to help anyone else trying to avoid the same loop.
If you’re looking to find other solo cruisers, and maybe even some solo deals, I found a pretty active Facebook group!
Key points for solo cruise travellers
- Highly recommend finding a travel agent to do the leg work for you.
- Find a price that you’re comfortable with, regardless of solo discount / supplement.
- NCL and Fred. Olsen have won awards for their solo traveller amenities.
- Last minute cruises usually have the biggest discounts for solo travellers.
- Most cruise lines will have onboard events for solo travellers.
The curse of solo supplements
I’m sure you’re familiar with solo supplements and how they can make travelling alone feel impossible. But if you’re not, here’s a quick breakdown:
A solo supplement is an extra charge cruise lines add when someone travels alone. Most staterooms are priced for two people, so if you’re the only one in the cabin, you’ll often be charged a supplement to make up for the “missing” guest.
Mind-blowing, right?
Some cruise lines do offer reduced, or even zero, solo supplements, so keep an eye out for that terminology when you’re browsing.
Cruise lines that offer reduced solo supplements (As of December 2025)
Costa Cruises
Costa Cruises frequently have ‘Single Cabin Zero Supplement’ promotions. Right now, there’s a zero supplement promo for cruises leaving in… 4 days. But, there’s also some deals for April, too. So if you’re flexible with your cruise, then you’ll most likely find the best day.
Keep an eye on the Costa website for the latest solo deals. You can find the link here!
MSC Cruises
Like Costa, MSC regularly have reduced supplement promotions. At the moment, they’re offering a reduced 50% discount on solo supplements on cruises in Northern Europe and Mediterranean.
Looking at those deals, they’re not the most tropical of locations and times of year. But hey, if it’s reduced I’ll take them.
Norwegian Cruise Line
NCL was actually voted as Best for Solo Travellers by Cruise Critic’s 2023 Editors’ Picks Awards. And did you know that NCL was the first cruise line to build staterooms and common areas specifically for the single cruiser? They have “studios” which are built for solo cruisers, and there’s even a dedicated lounge for solo passengers. Pretty cool, right?
Searching for a studio / solo cruise on the NCL website can be quite tricky. You don’t see the pricing for solo studios until you go all the way through to stateroom selection of the cruise you want. A lot of time can be wasted doing this so I would actually just have a travel agent track the availability for you.
Additionally, you would need to be fast for solo studios onboard NCL as they sell out extremely quickly.
Virgin Voyages
Even before Virgin Voyages launched, they were planning on shaking up the cruise industry – think adults-only, hammocks on balconies, and even drag acts at sea. And because of the incredible vibe onboard Virgin Voyages (allegedly), solo travellers are gravitating towards them for their choice of cruise line.
As a solo traveller you get a reduced solo supplement if you book a Sea Terrace or above. A little shady that it isn’t applicable on insides, but still better than nothing.
Fred. Olsen Cruise Line
Fred isn’t a cruise line I hear much discussion about. Maybe because they’re not the swanky, big, American cruise lines so they don’t dominate the r/cruise channel on Reddit.
If you’re interested in smaller ships that cruise from the UK, then Fred is a great choice.
Like NCL, they have dedicated solo cabins and actually won Best Cruise Line for Solo Travellers in 2024.
Ambassador Cruise Line
Ambassador are a fairly new cruise line having only launched in 2021, but they’re taking the UK market by storm with their wide range of no-fly options. They have some great promotions for solo cruisers.
My friend Lucy has some great videos about being a solo cruiser onboard Ambassador!
Let’s talk about the cruise lines that don’t offer discounts for solos
Royal Caribbean
Regrettably, Royal Caribbean is not the best for solo cruise travellers. At least, according to Reddit. Whilst some of their ships have dedicated solo staterooms, the price is often the same as a double occupancy equivalent.
Royal Caribbean ships with solo staterooms: Brilliance of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas, Quantum of the Seas, Ovation of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas and Spectrum of the Seas.
Celebrity Cruises
Celebrity Cruises could be in fact the worst choice for solo travellers. That is if you’re actually looking for a deal, Celebrity don’t really offer much. Both CruiseRadio and Reddit report that passengers have seen prices more than double for solo travellers. Such a shame really!
