In February 2026, Star Trek fans will take to the seas for something far beyond a typical holiday. The Un-Conventional Voyage, officially known as Star Trek: The Cruise IX, marks sixty years of Star Trek with a week-long sailing aboard Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas. Departing from Port Canaveral on 20 February and returning on the 27th, the ship will call at Puerto Plata, San Juan, and the private island of CocoCay. For me, the idea of stepping on board and finding the ship transformed into a living, breathing starship is irresistible. Even if I’m not the biggest Star Trek fan (sorry!).

It’s not just a themed sailing – it’s a chance to immerse yourself in Star Trek’s world for seven days.

What To Expect Onboard

Here’s what the cruise will offer, based on the official descriptions:

  • Panels, Q&A sessions, and storytelling with cast and franchise experts.
  • Immersive entertainment: dramatic readings, musical performances, comedy, improv, cooking demos, game shows, etc.
  • Theme nights & costume/cosplay encouraged — each evening with its unique twist.
  • Interactive opportunities: fans won’t just watch; they’ll join in — trivia, blackjack, karaoke, even wellness activities, possibly more.
  • A community of fellow fans, an environment where everyone shares the love of Trek.

Star Trek… In the Caribbean!

Of course, this is still a Caribbean itinerary, and that means moments of sunshine and exploration off the ship too. Puerto Plata’s beaches, San Juan’s cobbled streets, and CocoCay’s island escape will provide some contrast to the buzzing onboard atmosphere. I like the idea that you can spend the morning exploring a historic fortress in Puerto Rico, and by evening be back at sea attending a Starfleet-themed gala

That mix of real-world discovery and imaginative immersion is what makes the Un-Conventional Voyage so unique.

But… Why?

Well, Star Trek has always been about more than starships and aliens. It’s about humanity’s future, about diversity, and about optimism. What I love about the idea of the Un-Conventional Voyage is how it brings those values to life in a very real, very human way. For one week, thousands of fans gather in one place, not only to celebrate the show but to live out its ideals of connection and community. I suspect many will leave with friendships that last long after the ship returns to port.

Is this officially Star Trek?

Yes!! Star Trek: The Cruise IX / The Un-Conventional Voyage is official. It’s licensed by Paramount, promoted on StarTrek.com, and organised by Entertainment Cruise Productions.

So, is it the full ship?

Also yes! It is a chartered cruise. That means the entire ship (Adventure of the Seas, owned by Royal Caribbean) is leased for this event. The organisers have chartered the vessel and then run all Star Trek-themed programming, guest appearances, events etc. as a package on that ship.

How cool? Would you be up for it? It’s actually sold out, but there’s a waitlist! startrekthecruise.com!

Interested in more themed cruises? There’s a Taylor Swift one and an Abbey Road one coming!
